Erin Rebecca Meehan

"St. Luke Preschool Sidewalk Playground”

For Erin’s Gold Award Project, she decided to leave a memorable impact on the St. Luke’s Preschool in Long Valley. Erin chose to design an outdoor sidewalk playground for the youth of the preschool and the church. As someone who spends a lot of time outside, Erin knows the benefits of having an outdoor play space for young children. Playing for a small amount of time outside can lead to numerous physical and mental benefits. Erin spent a weekend at the preschool painting the sidewalk with fellow Girl Scouts, adult volunteers, and friends. 7 different games and activities were designed for the students, that combines having fun, learning, and working on gross motor skills. After the completion of her project, Erin spent a morning at the preschool and spoke to the students, teaching them how to play and enjoy the games.

Erin was a member of Troop 95025 since kindergarten as a Daisy scout. She enjoyed going to summer camp every summer and learning more about how to give back to her community. For her Bronze award, Erin and other members of Troop 95025 created posters to welcome the veterans to Old Farmers Road School during the semi-annual assemblies around Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Additionally, they served breakfast at the conclusion of both flag ceremonies to the Veterans in attendance. As someone who has a strong interest in history, Erin chose to work with a local Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter to create a document about the member’s Patriots for her Silver Award. These Patriots all served during the American Revolution and contributed greatly towards the nations battled for independence. The document contained the Patriot’s name, who the daughter is, where they served, and a little biographical information about the person. To complete her project Erin needed to go to meetings, gather information through surveys she created, and by presenting her final project to the Chapter. To finish her project, Erin gave the Chapter access to this document so that they can continue to update it after she finished.

Erin graduated from West Morris Central High School in June 2024 and will be attending Duquesne University as a part of their 5.5-year doctorate of Physical Therapy program. While at WMC, Erin was a member of the girl Basketball team, concert band, wind ensemble, marching band (serving as Drum Major in the fall of 2023), pit orchestra, symphony orchestra, pep band, choir, howlers acapella, and peer tutoring. In addition, Erin was a member of the National Honor Society, served as a president of the Spanish National Honor Society, and the secretary of the Science National Honor Society. With her Girl Scout troop, Erin volunteered with many Clean Communities and at her church, St. Luke’s Parish, as an Altar Server and Visual Minister. Erin’s mom, Jennifer, served as Troop 95025’s leader.
